The Supreme Court has prescribed an unusual format for filing a petition for writ of certiorari and other following briefs. It strictly sets out the size, type and color of paper, type of print, number of pages, type of binding and so on. The 6.125" * 9.25" paper format and 60 pound weight makes the petition documents of the Supreme Court look decidedly different than other documents submitted in other courts of USA.
Just like the inside pages of the certiorari writ, even the front and back covers have to abide by strict rules and requirements. The salient regulations are as follows:
• The cover pages of the petition for writ of certiorari should be the same 6.125 * 9.25 inch size.
• The cover should be of 65-pound weight paper only.
• The color of the cover is also stipulated and varies for various briefs. Such as -
.Petition for writ of certiorari – White cover
. Brief in opposition – Orange cover
. Reply to brief in opposition – Tan cover
